Welcome to 'Wrexham is the Game'
Not to be confused with 'Welcome to Wrexham' which is much, much better
ANDY: Hello and welcome to 'Wrexham is the Game' brought to you by the Fearless in Devotion boys (see banner pic above in which Tim looks like my registered carer).
It's a delightful spin on the line 'Wrexham is the Name' line from the very same song, which we can't use as it's copyrighted by a North American company.
Two sentences in and we're already embroiled in a legal row. With Ryan Reynolds, no less.
But apart from that it's been another busy week at the Cae Ras as the retained list is announced - while the jobless players are living it up in Vegas baby. Anyone who doesn't think that's a little awkward needs to look at Aaron Hayden's face in this pool pic.
We’re losing some proper legends. Rob Lainton is a cult hero (unless you mention newly-promoted Bromley - visits = 4, long term injuries = 3). And one person we do want to say a hearty goodbye to is Luke Young. A captain who summed up the best bits of us. Quite, unassuming, effective.
Look, just like Dean Keates, we love Luke Young.
He's the most high-profile departure of the week, oh wait, hold my Wrexham Lager (but not Bootlegger)…
NEWSFLASH: Fleur is gone. Ding, dong the... well, we'll talk more about this later.
Quotes of the week…
"And we hate the f**king King" - Paul Mullin after two bottles of Prosecco, some Babycham, a jug of Woo-Woo, a some Midori, a Castaway and a shot of Corky’s
The Burning Question…
ANDY: It's a simple conundrum: What do you want more, a new Kop or a new training ground? Many would say the former - we need to see the Racecourse returned to former glories as a four-sided mecca. A real stadium of the North, etc, etc.
But let's think about this. The temp stand is up, it's making money and as anyone who has ever been to Gillingham in the last 20 years knows, a temporary stand can stay up for a good few seasons.
So does it make more sense to target the training ground first?
We can't develop the club when players don't know where they are training from one to day to the next. Carden Park, Colliers Park, the Racecourse and even The Rock with its artificial surface. To borrow a phrase my pal Pistol Pete loves to use, players don't know if they're "sh*tting or shaving" and I'm sure the varied surfaces have exacerbated the injury problems the squad suffered last season.
